Hello, friends. Today’s card was drawn heavily upon a card design by Jennifer McGuire who drew inspiration from a card designed by the owner of Waffle Flower, Nina Yang. Here is the link to Jennifer McGuire’s original blog post. In Jennifer McGuire’s design, she used a border stamp to create diagonal lines and used Ranger Foil tape to add some shine. Today I will be using Washi Tape to create the lines. I thought this was a great way to use that stash of Washi tape we all have. My take using the Washi tape was really inspired by Evan and Savannah getting into my Washi stash and laying down strips of tape. I looked at what they had done and, man, it looked kinda cool. I’m always surprised where inspiration and art can come from and those kids have talent in spades.

I started with Neenah 80lb solar white cardstock cut to 4.25″x5.5″ (A2) size. I then took all my Washi and grouped them up by color/pattern. Then I laid down strips of Washi. I took care to mix widths of the tape, shiny textures, patterns and solids. I made about 6 of these. These will eventually be cut in half and the 4.25″ end will be the base of the card so be mindful of where you place the patterned strips. Being Washi tape, I was able to easily remove and re-tack the strips that ended up being upside down after I cut and placed my card front down.

I took six sheets of Neenah 110lb 8.5″X11″ paper and cut them in half so they were 4.25″w x 11″ long. I then scored all the papers at 5.5″ to make a top folding card base. I cut my Washi card fronts in half on the diagonal deciding where to cut them based on the pattern I was looking for. I then secured the card fronts to the bases using a really strong double sided tape.

The sentiments were from various stamp sets: Altenew Adore You, Hero Arts My Monthly Hero January 2017, Hero Arts My Monthly Hero September 2016, Clearly Besotted Dandelion Dreams and Hero Arts Happy Day Flowers. I love stamp sets for their sayings besides just the images. I stamped the sentiments in black pigment ink and used Hero Arts Clear Embossing Powder to give some shine and dimension. I love how the colorful patterns of the Washi tape give prominence to the sentiment. I think these would be great cards to receive and would definitely brighten anyone’s day.
