Using Scraps to make cards
I recently met a crafty friend on line and we met up to craft together. She introduced me to a great Birch Press Layered die, Adora. I’ve loved Birch Press dies but just hadn’t ever used them so I quickly grabbed three colors of paper out of my scrap stash and die cut them. The Adora die has a repeating heart pattern and after I cut out the patterns, I was left with all these colorful hearts. I didn’t want to waste them so I decided to make some cards but needed white as a neutral to go with my color palette. I grabbed the Altenew Radial Hearts cover die which has a repeating heart pattern and cut out a piece of Neenah solar white. I saved all these heart pieces and decided to use them on a card. Well I ended up making 5 cards and would like to explain how I made them using dies and leftovers. Please read on and note that affiliate links are used in this post. Birch Press Adora Card
Birch Press Adora layering die set has three separate dies that coordinate together. The fun part about these layering dies is the countless ways you can put them together…different colors, paper types and the centers are interchangeable. I borrowed this die and just cut it out of some random leftover cardstock. I then mounted the layers onto an A2 top folding card made from Gina K’s In the Navy cardstock. The white border is made from cutting with two Hero Arts infinity rectangle dies in sizes that are close together. All elements were adhered with Tonic Glue and Honey Bee rhinestones finished the look. The sentiment is die cut using the Elizabeth Craft Designs Word 2 die set out of Neenah cardstock and the sub sentiment is from Right At Home Script Greetings stamped with Stazon black ink on vellum. These dies are great because they have so much detail and can pull a card together quickly. There are a lot of little pieces left over which inspired me to make the next few cards…
Shaker card from leftovers
With all the hearts cut out from the Birch Press Die, I decided to use them as shaker bits. First on a piece of Neenah 80lb solar white cardstock, I used a Mini Blending tool with Distress Inks in: Scattered Straw, Chipped Sapphire and Dusty Concord to make a background. I love how the yellow and blue blended to make a green and the blue and purple blended to make a blue purple making the background look like I used many different colors instead of three.
Into the blended background, I lined up three Hero Arts Infinity Hearts dies in 2″, 1 1/2″ and 1 1/4″ and die cut them using my Gemini Jr. Die Cut Machine. I built the shaker using a piece of fun foam I die cut in a similar way and a piece of acetate from leftover packaging. After adding all the leftover hearts from the Birch Press Die and the Altenew Radial Hearts die I mounted the panel onto a piece of black cardstock and then onto a white 110lb Neenah A2 Top folding card. The sentiment comes from My Monthly Hero Kit March 2018.

Altenew Radial Hearts Die
Cover dies are a great way to build a card quickly as there are lots of details already present within the die. Altenew’s Radial Hearts cover die is beautiful and I used this to include white hearts for my left over projects. The background is a blend of Distress Oxide Inks in : Worn Lipstick, Abandoned Coral and Seedless Preserves. The sentiment is from the My Monthly Hero March 2018 kit and was die cut from some scrap paper that matched the background. Before attaching the cover panel, I spritzed some Tsuekineo Sparkle Shimmer Mist to add some interest to the background.
Die cut leftovers to build a scene
Using the left over hearts from the Altenew Radial Hearts Die and Birch Press Adora dies, I glued the hearts onto a piece of Gina K In the Navy cardstock. Before adding the hearts, I white heat embossed the sentiment, Hello There, from the My Monthly Hero March 2018 kit and also added a white rectangle frame I made by die cutting two Hero Arts Infinity Rectangle Dies. Under the sentiment I drew three lines with a Uni Ball white gel pen to add some weight to the sentiment. I glued the hearts with Nuvo glue and tried to make them in the shape of a heart. I tried to randomize the sizes and added sequins for filler.
Bonus Die Cut Card
This bonus card was made using the Altenew Doodled Lace Cover die. I glued this panel to an A2 card base made from Gina K In the Navy cardstock. To add some color, I used Nuvo Glitter drops in Yellow Bird for the flower centers and Nuvo Crystal Drops in Sweet Lilac for the flower petals. The die cut sentiment is from Right at Home script dies and the sub sentiment is fromHero Arts Everyday Messages. The Right at Home script dies come with a shadow layer which I cut out a piece of vellum to make the sentiment pop.
