Globe Greetings 3 ways

Concord & 9th stamp sets

The new Concord & 9th stamp sets are absolutely fantastic and I was so excited for them when they came out. The designs of the Globe Greetings stamp set made me think would be great for masculine cards and for all occasions. For this card today, I wanted to try out flocking which I haven’t done before but I thought would give great texture to the land forms on the earth image.

Using Globe Greetings Set

The sentiments on the Concord & 9th Globe Greetings match up so well with the globe image. I started with a piece of Neenah solar white card stock onto which I stamped the globe base in Hero Arts Charcoal shadow ink. The globe base is a solid image so I had to stamp it a few times. There were still some splotches so I used Fantastix which are foam pencils which act as stampers, to fill in the splotchy areas. I then colored the base with Wink of Stella glitter marker to give the base some shine.

To make the globes, I die cut out circles from Canson Watercolor paper using the circle from the matching die set. To adhere the flocking, I stamped the continent layer stamp on the circle with VersaMark ink and then added WOW Bonding Powder. When this powder is heat set, it’s tacky and the flock will now stick to the paper. The flocking is from a Martha Stewart set.

To add water to the world, I used Hero Arts Turquoise Silk Ink which comes in a nail polish bottle. I tried two ways of coloring the globe: (1) putting the liquid ink on a stamp block and picking up the color with my water brush and (2) adding water to the globe and then dropping in liquid silk ink. Picking up the color resulted in a softer look whereas water first, liquid silk ink second made for a darker look. I like dropping in the color because it darkened the continents creating a gradient on the flocking.

Topping off the card

Adding the sentiment directly onto the globe was not going to work due to the flocking. Heat embossing sentiments onto vellum was a good compromise which would allow me to use the sentiments included in the stamp set and the flocking and watercolors would still be visible. Cricut die cut set: Labels and Such has a banner label that fits across the globe perfectly. I heat embossed Happy Birthday from Hero Arts Everyday sentiments onto a piece of vellum that had been die cut with the Cricut banner label. I also heat embossed Welcome to the World onto vellum and fussy cut it out. All velum was adhered using Ranger’s Multi Medium Matte.

To complete the cards, I cut out foam circles and mounted the water colored globes onto them and then adhered the globe to the front globe panel. I then adhered the front panel onto Hero Arts card bases. Inside the Happy Birthday cards, I stamped: The World’s Best sentiment to tie in why a globe should be a part of a birthday card. I really enjoy this set and can see it being used for masculine cards. I would like to try coloring the world in different colors besides green and blue.
