Welcome to the Rustic Charm release from Altenew. This is a jam packed release with embossing folders, stamps dies and more! In today’s post I focus on using a mid century color scheme to make some vibrant holiday cards. If you are hopping along with us, you have just come from Linda Parker and your next stop isIshani. I hope this post gives you inspiration to take a mod stance on your holiday cards.
The supplies I used today were generously gifted to me by Altenew so I could share inspiration with you. I would love to know in the comments if you like to use non traditional colors on your holiday cards.

It’s a Mod holiday
When I think of mid century, my mind immediately goes to pastel pinks, mints and aquas. To help create the vibe of the 1950’s, I used these Altenew Ink families: Red Cosmos (the Frosty Pink and Coral Berry), Sweet Dreams (Dew Drops and Aqualicious) and Green Meadows (Minty Mint and Sweet Leaf). I added in neutrals from Rock Collection inks and Antique Gold Embossing Powder. Color is really important in setting a mood and giving off a vibe. Check out five different backgrounds I made using the products in this release for some mid century holiday cards. Let me know your favorite way to use color in your designs.
Paper Piecing Background
The Mid Century Cover die is a bold geometric die which I used to cut from white, mint, aqua, and pink papers. On a card front, I applied a piece of Altenew double sided adhesive sheet. By adding the adhesive sheet, I now could easily inlay the paper pieces. The white border was adhered first followed by the pink, mint and then aqua pieces. The tree, chair and sentiment from Mid Century Festivities stamped in Limestone and Silverstone inks really make this background come alive. To recreate a 1950’s aluminum tree, I added gems from my stash.

Background Stamping
The All is Bright background stamp from this release is a must have. I stamped the background with embossing ink and then used platinum embossing powder to give the wires and filaments shine. I then stamped the bulbs in Aqualicious, Just Green, Coral Berry and Pastel Sunrise inks. This is a gatefold card with a bellyband made from black cardstock heat embossed with the sentiment from the All is Bright background stamp set in Platinum embossing powder. I love the shine and whimsy of this card.

Embossing Folder Background
The Snowflakes 3D embossing folder is a wonderful product from this release. I love how there is a break in the snowflakes to have a sentiment. The detail on the snowflakes is amazing. I embossed a 6×6 piece of white cardstock with the Snowflakes 3D folder. I then used the Altenew mini blending brushes to add Dew Drops and Minty Mint inks to the snowflakes. I heat embossed the sentiment from the Mid Century Festivities stamp set in Antique Gold embossing powder. The ornament is also from the Mid Century Festivities stamp set and was stamped in Coral Berry, heat embossed with clear embossing powder and then a sequin was added in the middle to replicate the mercury glass ornaments from the 1950s. I sprinkled some Antique Gold embossing powder over the snowflakes to add more shine.

Stamping a Background
In the Mid Century Festivities Stamp set, there are two layered present stamps complete with bow. I stamped these presents repeatedly over a card front to make a background. The colors are: Dew Drops and Aqualicious, Frosty Pink and Coral Berry, Minty Mint and Just Green. I added a sentiment from the Mid Century Festivities stamp set and a small Antique Gold sequin for each present. Love how cute this turned out.
Stenciling a Background
The Shattered Cubes stencil is very versatile and can create many different stunning backgrounds depending on how you turn the stencil. I decided to use Minty Mint, Just Green, Dew Drops and Aqualicious inks to create a soft, pastel background. The ornaments were stamped from the Mid Century Festivities stamp set using Coral Berry and then heat embossed with Altenew Clear embossing powder. To complete the look of mercury glass ornaments, I added Altenew Antique Gold sequins to each ornament after adhering them to the bard front with dimensional tape. To make the hangers, I added Altenew Gold Foil 1in tape to card stock and cut 1/4″ strips and adhered them to the background. The sentiment from the Mid Century Festivities set heat embossed with Antique Gold embossing powder adds to the shine of the card.
