Altenew Paint a Flower: Magnolia Rustica Rubra Blog hop & giveaway

Welcome to another amazing Paint a Flower. I am always a fan of these stamps because each one is a beautiful floral. Each month I try to use a different medium to color the paint a flower. This month I used the Altenew Artist Markers. If you are hopping along with us you have just come from Natasha Davies. Your next stop is Terri Koszler. For more information and to start the hop over, check out the Altenew Card Blog. Let me know your favorite medium to color flowers.

PAF: Magnolia Rustica Rubra

Magnolia flowers are really beautiful. My magnolia tree produces the most amazing blooms to announce spring . I wanted to capture pink/red magnolia blooms with this stamp set. I like the triple blooms because I can practice my coloring techniques on them.

I tend to color on the road. This means that I color when I am waiting for a soccer game to finish, at a meeting or just to have a bit of fun while working. I like the Altenew Artist Markers for this reason – they’re portable, easy to blend and use.

I used Red Cosmos and Rose Petal marker sets for the petals. The leaves are Tropical Forest and Coffee Break was used for the branches.

To add texture to the background, I used my score board to add lines every 1/2″ taking care not to score the flower. The letters come from the Tall Alpha Lowercase die set cut from Altenew gold foil paper.

  2. That’s lovely!

My favorite way to color florals? That would have to be gouache paints; I learned how to paint florals in gouache years ago as part of the design school curriculum for my textile design degree. However, I don’t happen to have any tubes of gouache on hand at the moment. Cheaper poster paints can give the same effect, too (I don’t happen to have any of those, at the moment, either).

But honestly, at this point I try to buy flower stamps that don’t need coloring. I like one-color silhouette type stamps and also the layering stamps that you can just stamp a few layers and be done with it. I really do enjoy coloring — just don’t have a lot of time for it, so I tend to look for shortcuts. But I really enjoy seeing everyone else’s coloring!

  3. For some reason, I couldn’t see your images here on your blog, but I went to your IG account and found the card there. It’s gorgeous!! You used such interesting colors, they are so strong and rich!!

    1. Thanks for letting me know about the blog. And thanks for checking out my card. I love mixing the red cosmos and cherry blossom ink sets.
