Parrot Tulip, newest member to the Altenew Build-A-Flower
shrsl.com/2ni5fWelcome to my stop on the December Build-a-Flower blog hop celebrating the newest member of the BAF family: Parrot Tulip! If you’re hopping along you’ve just come from the amazingly creative Virginia Lu; she always thinks of different ways to use her supplies and I’m always on awe of her work. Your next stop is the talented Tenia Nelson whose work I absolutely adore. For full details and to see the full hop list, check out the Altenew card blog.

This Parrot Tulip just is so beautiful. The layering stamps were easy to use and line up, too. I have two cards to share with you using this stamp set. Both are one layer cards that required some masking. This was easy to do as I used the coordinating dies to cut out the masks. Using dies to cut out masks leaves a white halo when you stamp next to your image. My trick? I just line up the edge I’m stamping with the edge of the mask.
Rainbows of tulips
As soon as I saw this stamp set, a rainbow of flowers was in order, after all tulips come in so many varieties! For this repeat pattern, I located the center of the card, stamped the yellow flower (Summer Afternoon ink set). Then I placed the mask over the yellow flower to stamp the orange (Warm & Cozy ink set) and blue ones (Deep Blue Seas ink set). And then the mask was moved over to cover those flowers so the pink (Red Cosmos ink set) and purple flowers (Enchanted Garden ink set) could be stamped. The sentiment is from the stamp set and after being stamped in Obsidian ink, was heat embossed with Altenew clear embossing powder. The slim line size of 3 1/2″ H x 8 1/2″ W allows for so many tulips!
Highlighting Stamping
The second card I made using this stamp set uses the same masking technique. The yellow flower (Summer Afternoon ink set) was the first stamped and then masked. The flowers in the background were inked with the Warm Gray ink set to highlight the yellow flower and provide depth to the scene. The sentiment from the set was stamped in dark gray and then heat embossed with Altenew clear embossing powder. Using the new Altenew fine liner set, I drew a frame around the flowers to further set off the scene. If you do not have these pens, they are a must have in the craft room!
