Using Layered Stencils

Today on the blog, I am using Altenew Layered Stencils to create unique looks to cards. I am using different blends of ink, texture paste and DecoFoil Transfer Gel. I love how the layered stencils give such a realistic impression. Please read on for how I accomplished each of these looks and tricks and tips I learned along the way.

Layered stencils are new to me so to figure out how the stencils worked, I first used them with light and dark distress Inks. These stencils are 6×6 so I took a piece of 12×12 white cardstock and cut it into 4 6×6 sections. I then adhered the 6×6 piece to my work surface and then taped the stencil onto the paper. I used post-it tape to mask off the leaf area. For stencil A, I used a light color of distress Ink. For Stencil B, I used a darker Distress Ink. While the Distress Ink was still wet, I applied Perfect Pearl powder onto the 6×6 piece with a dry brush. This gave the whole panel just enough shine.

After the ink was dry, I used Hero Arts Postage Stamps infinity die to cut out a section of the 6×6. This piece was foam mounted to the card to add just enough dimension.
The sentiments were added using a die cut inlay technique. Each of the sentiments were cut out of white cardstock 4 times. Then the sentiment was cut from the Stencil panel. I adhered the panel to the fun foam and added the first white layer and the inlay pieces from the stencil panel. I then stacked the diecuts on top of each other and then adhered them to the panel. This technique allows for the pattern to still show despite adding a sentiment to the front of the card.

Using the same method as above except on the B Stencil, I used Decofoil transfer gel. After the gel dries for about an hour, place the foil over the images and run through a laminator. I ran it through with the purple foil first then I added the transfer gel to the leaves and repeated the process with green foil. The sentiment is from Right at Home Script Greetings.

Using the leftover strips from the stenciled panels, I made a bonus card. I cut the strips to and foam mounted them onto a top folding A2 card. Using Right at Home’s script sentiments, I cut 3 of them out of cardstock and diecut inlaid them into the middle panel. On the raised sentiment, I used a Nuvo shimmer pen to trace over the sentiment and add shine. I added some HoneyBee stamps rainbow gems for added shine and dimension.

These cards came out so pretty and there was no stamping! I hope this post inspired you to try layered stencils and trying different mediums on them.
