Magical Markers
If I had to decide what kind of stamper/card maker I am, floral elegance would first come to mind. I like flowers and since they come in so many different colors, they are forgiving with crazy color combinations. In the Altenew Magical Marker class, I was really inspired by how the instructor used stencils with markers to make a graphic card. When I have a stencil, I have a need to use the entire stencil on my project. In this class, the instructor had recommended to use only part of a stencil and think outside the box. Challenge accepted and this is the card I came up with using Altenew Kaleidoscope stencil A, Copic Markers and Altenew in-line alpha dies. Please read on for how I put together this card. |
Thinking outside the box
Altenew Kaleidoscope stencil is a layering stencil that is very geometric. I decided I was going to use just a part of the stencil so I examined each one and looked for repeating patterns. I traced some ideas onto scrap paper and found a shape that looked like a diamond gem. It looked really Art Deco to me so I decided to embrace the bright colors of that time period and go for a linear/geometric look.
On a piece of Neenah 80lb solar white cardstock, I laid down the stencil and taped it in place so the diamond was in a corner of the paper. I then used Copic C7 to trace along the shape. I repeated this two more times having each diamond below the other until I had a column of diamonds. I then used Copic: BG45, BG01 and B000 to color inside each shape. I then went over the gray lines with Copic 100 to intensify the bold shapes.
Building the elements
To go along with the Art Deco colors, I paired orange with the teal diamonds. Using Copic YR07, YR04 and YR21, I blended these colors on a piece of scrap paper and then used Altenew In-Line Alpha dies to cut out g, e and m. I used these same dies to cut out these letters three more times so I could stack the letters on top of each other. On a strip of black cardstock, I used part of a sentiment from Altenew Needlework motif stamp set to stamp YOU ARE A in VersaMark ink so I could heat emboss the words using Brutus Monroe embossing powder in Alabaster. I cut a piece of scrap black cardstock to fit the front of my card and put down a 1/8″ strip of Scor-Tape. To the tape, I added a piece of transfer foil and burnished it onto the tape.
Final Assembly
To put this card together, I used a Hero Arts premade A2 card in orange. I cut the black panel with the foil to 51/4″ tall. I then cut the diamond panel to 51/4″ tall by 31/2″ wide. Both panels were added to the orange card base. I added Nuvo Aqua shimmer to the diamonds and the die cut letters. I then adhered the letters using Gina K connect glue and then added the black YOU ARE A sentiment strip. For a final touch, I added Ranger Enamel Accents in black.
